The History of the Uhlmann Group
A heritage of nearly 80 years
It all starts in 1948, when Josef Uhlmann, grandfather of today’s owner, Tobias Uhlmann, founded the company “Uhlmann”. Specializing in precision molds for suppositories, Josef laid the cornerstone for what would become a global pioneer in pharmaceutical packaging.
From craft business to mechanical engineering leader
In 1963, Josef's son Friedrich Uhlmann joined the company. Under his leadership, the original craft business evolved into a highly respected mechanical engineering enterprise. In 1983, he laid the foundation for the international orientation of the Uhlmann Group by establishing the very first Uhlmann subsidiary in the USA.
Strategic development under Hedwig Uhlmann
Following the early passing of her husband, Hedwig Uhlmann assumed responsibility in 1994 and led the company through a phase of remarkable expansion and further internationalization. Under her leadership, Uhlmann more than tripled its revenue and doubled its workforce, while establishing subsidiaries in Brazil, Europe, Singapur, and China.
Her clear values, personal presence, and decisive leadership helped strengthen the company’s culture of responsibility, appreciation, and human proximity, qualities that continue to characterize Uhlmann today. Her tenure laid the foundation for today’s Uhlmann Group.
With the acquisition of KOCH in 2006, the second of now six Group Companies joined the portfolio, marking a key milestone in the Group’s development.
Continuation and strategic consolidation under Tobias Uhlmann
Today, Tobias Uhlmann shapes the international trajectory of the Uhlmann Group. Since 2007, additional companies joined the family-owned corporate group:
- Wonder became part of the Uhlmann Group in 2011, followed by Cremer in 2017.
- With the establishment of the Holding in 2019, the individual Group Companies were brought together under a shared organizational framework.
- In 2025, Goldfuss Automation was acquired, and since 2026, Axito has served as the Group’s shared service center, providing central services across all companies.
Through these developments, Tobias Uhlmann has played a key role in expanding the Uhlmann Group strategically, diversifying its technological capabilities, and positioning it for the future - guided by a pioneering mindset, a collaborative approach, and the reliability rooted in family values.
