Uhlmann Group bundles sustainability goals in a joint strategy

Ambitious targets defined for the Group Companies and new sustainability report online
Laupheim, November 09, 2026. The Uhlmann Group has published its Group-wide Sustainability Strategy 2030. It bundles the sustainability activities of the six Group Companies in a common strategic framework and defines clear goals in the areas of environment, social issues, supply chain, market and corporate governance.
"For us, sustainability means taking responsibility across generations. It is crucial that we anchor this responsibility concretely in our actions and our solutions – across the entire Uhlmann Group," says Tobias Uhlmann, Chairman of the Uhlmann Group Supervisory Board.
Clear objectives along the value chain
With the new Sustainability Strategy 2030, the Group is continuing to pursue its stringent path to greater sustainability. The Uhlmann Group is setting new ambitious goals for the environment, social issues and responsible corporate governance and bringing together the measures already initiated in the individual companies. In addition, it defines ambitious targets that apply to all companies. The climate targets are based on the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Important milestones in the strategy include the complete switch to electricity from renewable energies and a 42.3% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030. The course is also being set anew in terms of technology: by 2030, 95% of all machines are to be able to process recyclable packaging materials or offer packaging designs with the lowest possible use of materials. In addition, transport packaging will be consistently converted to recyclable solutions. The entire value chain is systematically involved in order to reduce upstream and downstream Scope 3 emissions by 27.5% and to gradually integrate emission-intensive suppliers into the Group's sustainability program.
Thinking sustainability and profitability together
Contrary to the current trend of weakening the focus on corporate social responsibility goals, the Uhlmann Group will continue to focus stringently on the further development of its corporate goals in line with recognized sustainability standards. The Uhlmann Group understands sustainability as an integral part of economic activity. This also applies to the companies in which solutions from the Uhlmann Group Companies are used. They have set themselves the task of making their business model fit for a sustainable future and of further developing their packaging processes in terms of material use, energy consumption and recyclability. Sustainability aspects, as formulated in the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR), are therefore increasingly determining investment decisions, especially in packaging solutions.
"Our aim is to see sustainability as integrated and to consistently translate it into concrete solutions for our customers: from material selection to process design and implementation on the machine," emphasizes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Niemeyer, CEO of the Uhlmann Group. A central approach is the development of alternative packaging concepts as well as circular business models such as upgrade and rebuild programs that modernize existing machines, extend life cycles and conserve resources.
Focus on employees and responsible corporate governance
In addition to environmental goals, the new Group-wide sustainability strategy also addresses social and governance aspects. These include regular training courses and workshops on environmental, compliance, human rights and health topics. A special focus is placed on initiatives to strengthen belonging and inclusion. Each Group Company is also involved in charitable projects.
Voluntary reporting according to CSRD requirements
In addition, the Uhlmann Group has just voluntarily published a sustainability report in accordance with the requirements of the CSRD for the first time. Formally, the Group is not obliged to do so until 2028. The report thus creates additional transparency on material sustainability topics and progress in the strategic orientation of sustainability at the Uhlmann Group. "For us, sustainability is not a supplementary field of action, but a prerequisite for fulfilling our entrepreneurial mission in the long term," says Tobias Uhlmann. "We see ourselves as an active partner to our customers and want to shape the change towards alternative packaging solutions together."
Note to editors: The baseline year for the Scope 1 and Scope 2 reduction target is fiscal year 2019/2020. All other targets refer to fiscal year 2024/2025.
